As companies become more environmentally conscious we are increasingly asked for recyclable labels. The adhesives on most label products make most label materials non-recyclable, although our material manufacturers are working on washable adhesives, which we hope will be available in the not too distant future.
Our standard Matt paper materials have for along time been supplied from an FSC approved source, but we now are able to offer a biodegradable and compostable label products.
The biodegradable label materials we can provide are composed of 95% sugar cane fibres and 5% hemp and linen. The adhesive used also conform with EN 13432 and are therefore considered to be compostable and biodegradable. The backing materials are all 100% recyclable and the products have a 2 year lifetime when stored correctly.
The materials are currently more expensive than standard label materials, but these costs should reduce as more companies move over to using these greener label materials. To give an idea of the difference in price I’ve compared the price on standard matt paper and begasse label materials, digitally printed and cut to 75mm x 100mm.
